C5 Studios to host “Avant Garde Paper Ball” in celebration of members and donors
If you have not yet attended a party at C5 Studios Community Arts Center, it’s fair to say that you are missing out. You may know C5 Studios for its beautiful gift shop boasting creations by many local artists; the town’s best kept secret for last minute gifts. Perhaps you have visited gallery shows, artist events or live music at the community center on Warren St in downtown Bishop? Maybe you’ve attended a class or two, or brought your own kids or grandkids’ inspiring artwork home after a class or school visit. C5 Studios Community Center has many valuable offerings for local and visiting folks, but for those who like a night out, their annual parties are occasions that really shine.
C5 Studios Community Arts Center, the main public-facing program of local non-profit organization Eastern Sierra Artists, believes that art has the power to transform communities. Their mission is dedicated to uplifting artists, providing public art opportunities, and connecting individuals across the Eastern Sierra. C5 Studios is also committed to making art accessible to everyone, offering public art projects that bring vibrancy and beauty to our streets and gathering spaces. C5 Studios programs foster connection, build community, and create spaces where creativity thrives, making the Eastern Sierra a more vibrant and connected place to live, work, and create.
As a non-profit organization, Eastern Sierra Artists/C5 Studios relies largely on funding from local and regional grants such as the recent KDA
Creative Corps grant that allowed them to coordinate the creation of the Connected Community Mural, the vibrant and eclectic collection of art on the north wall of their building on Warren Street. Support also comes from the local community through donations and membership. “Our members are a vital part of the foundational support that C5 Studios relies on, both financially and in terms of letting us know that the work we do is serving the needs of the community”, said Co-Executive Directors Erin Dews and Naomi Hart Johnson. “C5 Studios is committed to hosting an annual party to celebrate and honor our wonderful members, but the event also functions as a membership drive and fundraiser as it is open to the general public who can purchase tickets by making a donation to support the health and sustainability of our diverse programming, or become supporting members themselves”
This year, on Friday October 25th, C5 Studios is holding an extra special artist extravaganza for their annual members’ party. The “Avant-Garde Paper Ball” promises to be a unique, glamorous and seriously playful gathering with guests invited to arrive dressed in paper, whether this is a full-garment paper adventure or a paper accessory added to a favorite outfit. Paper costumes will be admired by a panel of “outrageously fabulous” judges and could result in prizes and gifts for some fortunate individuals. As a fundraiser for this valued local non-profit organization, the event will also include a silent auction with original works of art by artists such as John Hamilton, Ted Goerschner, Lynn Peterson and Nora Akino, jewelry by Lauren Smith Goldsmith, textiles and more! C5 Studios is excited to share that neighbors Mercado Mexico will be providing their famous tamales and salsa. With a local DJ, festive drinks bar, a hosted tea ceremony and cake walk, there will be plenty to keep your ears, eyes and taste buds entertained.
In an exciting recent reveal, this fall fundraiser and membership drive is subject to an extraordinary match donation from a local donor. For every dollar raised through donations, including memberships, a generous community sponsor has pledged to match it dollar for dollar through Giving Tuesday (December 3rd, 2024). In the words of Eastern Sierra Artists’ Board of Directors, “Your support of the Avant Garde Paper Ball will help us continue this important work – from offering more art classes, to creating new public art installations, to providing much-needed resources for artists, families, and children. And remember, every dollar you give will be matched, doubling your contribution and helping us make an even greater impact. We hope you’ll join us at the Avant Garde Paper Ball to celebrate the power of art and community. Together, we can continue to make the Eastern Sierra a place where creativity shines and every artist is uplifted.”
